Anyati's Boutique Remaining and Expanding

 March 30th, 2016  |  05:21 AM  |   1703 views

GADONG, MUKIM BERAKAS A

Anyati's, a boutique and an atelier, initially had its showroom in a compact space at The Mall. It could fit only two mannequins, which was not good enough for owner Anyati Abdullah Orcullo's expanding business.

Now she has moved to a bigger space at The Rizqun International Hotel.

Speaking in an interview, Anyati said she established her boutique in Brunei in 2001.

"Alhamdulillah, this brand has survived the last 15 years. I have an atelier located in Jalan Pasar Gadong too," she noted.

"Designing clothes started off as a hobby. Now I have evolved into someone who specialises in wedding gowns," she said.

Anyati, however, does not want to limit herself to weddings.

"I also do all types of costumes and outfits," she said.

"I want to showcase another genre of fashion, which is common outside the country but not so much in Brunei," she said, adding that she had written a coffee table book on Brunei Malay weddings.

"I wrote the book when I realised that the younger generation did not fully appreciate the meaningful ceremonies of Malay weddings.

"So, I decided to document everything and define the ceremonies. This is to make couples understand why they have to go through the ceremonies," she said.
