(KPL) The National Assembly has approved reports on the implementation of four laws in the justice sphere: Law on People’s Supreme Court, Law on Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office, Law on Civil Procedure, and Law on Criminal Procedure.

Mr. Khampheng Vilaphan, President of Justice Commission of the National Assembly told a press conference on July 17 that the reports from the People’s Supreme Court and the Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office drew attention from the participants of the ongoing 5th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 9th legislature.

Up to 54 lawmakers shared their views on issues related to the performance of the People’s Supreme Court and the Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office.

“The meeting highly valued the implementation of the four laws and we have found that these laws have become fundamental legal instruments for People’s Court, People’s Prosecutor Office and relevant organizations with respect to the fulfillment of their roles, rights and responsibilities to protect the rights and interests of the government, organizations and citizens as stated by relevant laws,” said Mr. Khampheng.

The lawmakers, however, have identified several issues that need to be addressed. These include inactive popularization and dissemination of the four laws; slow and delayed translation of articles of these laws into sub-law legal instruments, and unsystematic determination of rights and duties for prosecution bodies.

They have found that prosecution mechanisms are yet to be complete, comprehensive, suitable and strict as stated by the law, and collaboration among relevant organizations is yet to be active.

The meeting asked the two judicial organizations to increase popularization and dissemination of the four laws and make sure target groups in the society have proper knowledge of them, and accelerate working with relevant authorities to translate articles in these laws into sub-law legal instruments.

The two organizations were also asked to pay attention to training their staff to make sure they have strong political ideology, ethics and morals and continue improving case procurement mechanisms to ensure they are proper, comprehensive, complete, realistic, transparent and fair.
