Conversion Of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Vehicles To Electric Vehicles (EVS): Focus On Motorcycles

Side event 1 (Morning Session)– Conversion of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs): Focus on Motorcycles

Several Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries have strategies for low‑emissions mobility with the decrease of their oil import dependency being one of the key goals. The ACE’s 7th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO7) identified that electric vehicle deployment targets allow the shift from the use of conventional fuel to electricity. The strategies emphasise, amongst others, removing obstacles to the electrification of transport to promote market development of plug-in electric vehicles (PEV), especially cars, powered two-wheelers, i.e., motorcycles, and light-duty vehicles or vans.

This international workshop shall support Priority Number 4.4. on the Conversion of ICEs (internal combustion engine vehicles) to EVs (electric vehicles) focusing on motorcycles The strategy of this conference consists of first, analysing the feasibility of ICE motorcycles converting to electric motorcycles option to accelerate mobility electrification in ASEAN Member States based on the total cost of ownership of a converted electric motorcycles in comparison to a new electric motorcycles, second, to see possible impacts of this conversion strategy to the power system, and third, the business model that shall facilitate ICE converting to EV.

Side Event 2 (Afternoon Session)– Development of Bioenergy Market Potential in ASEAN

Sustainable bioenergy is essential for domestic and regional energy security, as the use of domestically produced biofuels can improve the self-sufficiency of countries with net energy imports and reduce the economic burden of importing crude oil for nations (IEA, 2019) and therefore play a major role in the ASEAN energy transition in the coming decades. Here, the The expansion of sustainable bioenergy in ASEAN could benefit not only individual countries, but also the region. The issues are to find and expand the ASEAN potential of sustainable bioenergy.

This international conference shall support the Priority Number 4.1. of the PEDs, Indonesia ASEAN Chairmanship, calling for analysing bioenergy market potential. Its core strategy consists of the improvement of the enabling environment: improve productivity and enhance regional cooperation for trade and energy security. Also, the development of next generation biofuels as a mid- to long-term solution should also be pursued in line with the development of energy-agricultural integration for the security of both sectors.
