SUMATRA

The West Sumatra government has received a grant of Rp53 billion (around US$3.38 million) from the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) for its good performance in supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

"The grant gives us motivation to continue to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions and preserve the environment," West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi said on Friday.

He said that cutting carbon emissions is not only the task of the government but also of the community, which must realize and understand the importance of reducing emissions and preserving the environment.

The grant will be utilized as soon as possible for environmental management, especially through communities living around forests in the province, he added.

The West Sumatra government will coordinate with the relevant parties immediately so that the fund can be used for programs that support carbon emission reduction.

Meanwhile, head of the West Sumatra Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of the Ministry of Finance, Syukriah H.G., emphasized that the grant must be used accurately through programs that continue to support the achievement of net zero emissions.

"Low-carbon development initiatives are crucial to ensuring that Indonesia's economic growth is resilient to the impacts of climate change. This is very important for the lives of our future generations," she said.

She said that the disbursement of the grant from the BPDLH, which is an institution under the Ministry of Finance, is one of the main policies of the central government to reduce emissions and encourage sustainable development and economic growth.

"Therefore, we need to accelerate the programs so that emission reduction can be even better going forward," Syukriah added.
