Brunei paddlers for Labuan date

The Persatuan Lumba Perahu Daerah Brunei
Muara is set to participate in the Nusantara Sampan Race to be held in
Labuan from May 7 to 8.
Currently, the association has been
vigorously preparing for the race held in conjunction with the
National Water Festival (NWF) 2004.
"Actually we have conducted practices
almost everyday, not only for NWF 2004 but also for other races.
"In fact we practise almost everyday
so we can be consistent and ready for any competition," said a
spokesperson for the association.
Meanwhile, a representative of Labuan
Tourism Action Council and Labuan Corporation, Malai Hashim bin Malai
Hassan who visited Brunei Darussalam to promote the NWF 2004 said
Bruneians may also enter for the competitions open for the public.
"Apart from proper competition such
as Underwater Treasure Hunt, Labuan Jet Sports Challenge, Labuan
International Games Fishing Tournament, Fishing Competition,
Tugs-of-War on Boat Competition, Cross Channel Swimming Competition,
Water Festival Exhibition, Nusantara Sampan Race and Round Island
Kayak Race, there would be competitions open for the public where
every visitors including Bruneians could take part," he said.
He said the public could take part in
the beach volleyball on May 1, kindergarten students and mothers
colouring competition on May 1 and 8, jigsaw puzzle for parents and
kindergarten students on May 2, beach sports such as umang race,
freshwater fishing, beach bowling and teka batu ladung for college
students on May 3, 'kerabu' seafood making competition on May 4 and
traditional cake baking competition on May 8.
All the competitions would take place
on May 8 at the Labuan International Water Sports Complex (LIWSC).
Malai Hashim added that free bus shuttles from Labuan bus stand to
LIWSC are available on May 8.
