Take A Look At What’s Cooking Students Told

Bandar Seri Begawan – All students regardless of their gender are encouraged to take up Home Science as a selected subject and opt for Hotel Management and Caterings as their future careers.

Pengiran Datin Hajah Mariam, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education gave this advice at the 4th National Level Cooking Competition for Secondary Schools and Colleges yesterday.

The skills they gain could pave the way to start their own food and hotel management-related businesses, she added.

She also suggested that all secondary schools and colleges should continue to conduct such competitions on regular basis as an effort to encourage and attract student interest in the art of cooking and choose home science as a subjects at lower secondary level.

Twenty secondary schools and colleges took part in the competition but only seven managed to reach the final level.

Three categories were judged. They were the contents of the recipe, methods of cooking and table designing and arrangements.

The theme of this year's competition is "Go the Soya Way".

The reigning champion the Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School retained the title. They won all the three categories. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
