By M K Anwar & Lyna Mohammad
Bandar Seri Begawan - A routine joint operation
by Police, Immigration and Religious departments turned into a
drug bust yesterday when a large haul of a suspected
substance was found. Two men, one an alleged drug pusher, have
been held for questioning.
The Bandar Seri Begawan Police
District led the joint operation codenamed "Ops Bersapadu DPB"
together with the other two enforcement agencies.
The operation, which began around 11
pm Saturday, targeted some large foreign workers’ quarters in Beribi,
near the Brunei capital when foreign workers were checked for their
travel and work passes.
It was during an inspection in a room
where several foreign workers were staying that the raiding party
received information that someone was allegedly selling drugs. Further
inspections by CID personnel in the room led to the discovery of some
suspicious substance believed to be drugs.
The police immediately called the
Narcotics Control Bureau who conducted further checks and uncovered
more of the substance hidden inside one of the lockers and ceiling of
the room. Some of the drugs were packed in small packets.
The NCB later confirmed that they had
found the substance inside the room. The suspected substance has been
reportedly sent for laboratory testing.
Two male foreigners were later
detained.
The police said that it is believed
that one of them is suspected of selling the drugs to locals.
