Police Look For Booze Runner Who Dodged Customs

Bandar Seri Begawan – A booze smuggler, believed to be a foreigner escaped in a car when Customs officials at the Kuala Lurah Control Post tried to examine a vehicle yesterday.

According to a spokesperson from the Limau Manis Police Station, they received a phone call from the Central Police Station concerning a car found at Kg Tasek Meradun following a public tip off.

After the police conducted an investigation, they found that the car was indeed the vehicle that escaped examination from the Kuala Lurah Custom officials.

Police found various brands of alcoholic beverages hidden in several parts of the car. However, the police are looking for the driver is who took off soon after.

Also yesterday, a car driven by an Indian national was detained near the Kuala Lurah Control Post after receiving information from the public.

Investigations revealed that the car had boxes of frozen meat and a box of chicken wings of which its Halal state was unknown.

The car was impounded and the driver detained at the Limau Manis Police Station for further investigations. The foodstuffs were handed over to Customs for further investigation. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
