Brunei Holds Domain Name Meet
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Representatives from the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity
and the International Telecommunication Union are gathering in Bandar
Seri Begawan to attend a Workshop on Electronic Numbering (ENUM) and
International Domain Names (IDN).

Dato Awang Haji Abdullah, Permanent Secretary at Ministry of
Communication yesterday inaugurated the workshop.
The two-day workshop is hosted by the
Ministry of Communication and the Authority for Info communications
Technology Industry (AiTi).
The ENUM workshop focuses on
electronic numbering trails and implementation issues as well as to
provide an update on the progress on ENUM within the Asia Pacific
regions.
Workshop attended by top level policy
makers included those are in technical expert, telecom operators,
international organisations, academic institutes, other industry
stakeholders from Asia Pacific Region attending in the workshop.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director in
Asia Pacific Telecommunity Secretariat, Mr Amarendra Narayan in his
welcoming address elaborated on the role of APT in promoting
development of telecommunication and information technology in the
Asia Pacific region.
Meanwhile a representative from ITU-International
Telecommunication Union, Mr Robert Shaw said that ITU and APT have
jointly organized several events in various areas which geared towards
the development of telecommunication.
Today, the workshop will cover
important issues related to International Domain Names and its
implementation as well as Internet domain administration.
The workshop acts as venue whereby
participants could share and exchange experiences apart from getting
insight on the developments and strategies on ENUM and IDN adopted by
its member countries. --
