Night Of Glam And Masks At UBD's Charity Gala
Bandar Seri Begawan - It was a night of glamour and entertainment on Saturday as UBD students attended the Charity Gala Night 2009 held at the the Jerudong Polo and Riding Club.
The Gala Night saw UBD students dressed to impress, with the ladies in their beautiful dresses and the men in their suits, both donning masks, fitting in with the "Masquerade Glam" theme of the event.
The guest of honour was Dr Hj Junaidi bin Hj Abd Rahman, the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Corporate and Administration) of UBD.
One of the highlights of the event was the final round of the UBD's Got Talent 2009 competition, which saw UBD students showcasing their talents in the hopes of winning over the audience and a panel of judges comprising local artistes and UBD personnel, namely Hans Anwar and Fakhrul from Phuture Phase Productions; Juju; Asmali, a UBD lecturer and Maudena, UBD's Assistant Registrar.
The winner of the talent show was Syam with his powerful guitar performance followed by band Roh Zaman in second place and hip-hop dancers TNC in third.
The Gala Night also featured performances from local artistes Hans Anwar, Fakhrul Razi, Putri Norizah, Joe M, Hill and Juju, as well as the UBD Dance Club and Korean Culture Club.
According to Fadhil Johari, a UBD student, the entertainment was great and it was good to see everyone getting involved in donating to charity.
"It was also nice to see our local talents showing what they can do, though I'd like to see more of the lesser known local singers and bands.
"The theme was good too. It gave everyone the opportunity to dress up in their Sunday best and just have a good time," he said.
Another student, Adlina Azlan, echoed the comment adding that the organising committee had done a good job in holding such a successful event.
Khalil Kashfi, one of the student council members involved in the Gala Night, attributed the success to the team's effort.
"I'm glad that we had such a dynamic team to organise this event," he said.
Another of the event's highlights was the Silent Auction, which allowed attendees the opportunity to bid for a number of different auction items, including personal performances from artistes of Phuture Phase Productions, a make-up session, a photography session and even a "special parking spot located at the Faculty of Science for seven days".
All proceeds from the auction as well as the ticket sales will go to charity.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
