In order to modernize the country, we need a higher population in the country. Population in Brunei is only 400k, because people are migrating out of Brunei. With this amount of population, the economy of Brunei can't really go anywhere like Singapore or Dubai. Brunei is about 3 times bigger than Singapore, but population is 12 times lesser than Singapore. The number of population is very important to a country's economic growth.

In order to make the economic growth, we can't just depend on oil and gas only, we need to focus on commercial industries too, Commercial business here is weak, the reason is obvious, insufficient population. Insufficient population means less spending power, that's the nightmare for all the businesses. If no one is spending their money, the economic growth won't move on, meaning the country is not developing.

I am not an expert on how economy works, but somehow I know large population creates money, which lead to economic growth, just like big city like Singapore, K.L and Hong Kong. Everyone is spending there, businesses are good there. There is a reason why everyone is spending due to different cultures influenced from other country. Foreign Cultures is very important, it opens our mind and tends to do something new, because the culture attract us, such as fashion, lifestyle, food etc. This would attract many type of businesses in the country due do there is such market segment exist. I need to stop here.

There are few points I wish my country could do something about before/while modernizing it.. First, to attract more people to migrate to Brunei to increase the population, by doing this every type of industries will grow, such as finance institutions, education (School, Colleges and Universities), retail businesses and more.

Secondly, welcome more foreign companies into the country, let them invest in our country, more companies give competition to others, meaning every company will improve quickly due to competition, which also means, they need more skilled employees to work for them, they will give job opportunities for fresh university graduates.

Thirdly, improve the country's tourism industry, meaning money is coming in from other countries. So try to build more attractive places for tourists. There are few reasons why people travel. It could be because of shopping, entertainment, sight Seeing and experience the country's culture.

If the government could improve these 4 sectors, tourism industry will grow. I believe there are many things could be done easily, it all depends on the government.

good point that u mention up there. my first point though large population creates economic growth and prosperity it will also create massive problems such as unemployment,crimes and etc. second point is by welcoming more foreign countries in Brunei it will greatly affected all of us. (the question is do you think foreign investors would want to hire bruneians?)infact if we didnt control the increasing number of foreign investors,then they will eat up our economy. Trust me! just look other countries as an example.such as maldives where the local suffer while the foreign investors fully happy to exploit their resources

Because of the wrong attitude of Brunei people

People go out of Brunei because the egoist attitude of others force them. If a Brunei woman marry an outsider she go outside. Because it's not possible for the Outsider (special from Europe) to find a job in Brunei. Orang Putih is not corrupt and that they worry. I tried two years to find a job, Nada. I'm high edicated and want to work for local salary, what they choose Chinese from Singapore. People wake up and help eachtoher. Let the Brunei woman stay in there own country, you force them to go out.

being a student of this industry in Australia. i see this as a step forward to further the development of Brunei. foreign investors will create job opportunities for the locals and also give new ideas and perspective on now to integrate historical buildings with modern architecture.
