Bandar Seri Begawan - The authorities should introduce, implement and expand the Talaqqi (verbal transmission of knowledge) education and learning system from the primary school level to the higher educational institutions for both formal and informal education levels (in religious halls, surau and mosques).

This resolution was presented by Ustazah Pg Hjh Salmiah Pg Hj Shahbudin, Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) director of Language Centre, in her capacity as co-chairperson of the two-day Talaqqi Traditional Texts Education Seminar which came to a close yesterday at KUPU SB.

Teachers and students also need to be exposed to effective teaching and learning strategies in upgrading their skills in mastering the contents of Thurath (traditional Jawi texts) books," she added As part of the resolutions, Ustazah Pg Hjh Salmiah also highlighted the need to establish an Islamic Thurath centre in Brunei, as a hub for reference and research. This centre will act as a Thurath centre for the Southeast Asia region.

The resolution also underlined that authorities should pay serious attention and effort towards creating advance networks of information technology and database between libraries and research centres to facilitate research.

The director also emphasised on the need to establish a committee (Tahqiq Kitab Thurath) that is made up of experts from KUPU SB.

This committee will be tasked with the responsibility of resolving conflicts with regards to the meaning and understanding of the Thurath books content.

She also called upon KUPU SB to publish a dictionary on old and new Jawi terms as well as come out with a book of translations of all the Arabic words found in Thurath books.

The director also urged the private and public sectors as well as individuals to take the initiative to set up institutions of Al-Quran and Al-Hadith appreciations.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
