Work To Live Don't Claim To Be Poor, Say Imams
One should preserve one's dignity and pride and refrain from asking for help.
Religious leaders urged the public to work for one's living to lessen the burden.
Muslims should strive to find ways to support ones livelihood, Imams said in the Friday sermon yesterday.
In reiterating the definition of poor and needy categories amid the increasing number of Muslims seeking financial help from the relevant authorities for livelihood nowadays, Imams outlined the categories of people that are not legible to receive tithe such as non-Muslims, people who are wealthy and those even without wealth but have a job bringing an income.
Imams also gave some examples like a child was not eligible to receive tithe if the father was rich and a wife if her husband was rich. Those who are employed and have adequate means to meet one's need or fit to work should also not receive tithe. The money from tithe collection is meant for eight eligible recipients. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
