Multi-agency Meet To Boost Internal Security
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) yesterday held a meeting with representatives from other law-enforcement departments in a concerted drive to boost safety in the Sultanate, with particular focus on the upcoming holiday season.
Present at the meeting were the Narcotics Control Bureau, Immigration and National Registration Department, Royal Customs and Excise Department and the Internal Security Department.
In his opening speech, Acting ACP Mohd Sammy Hj Muhd Shah Al-Islam expressed the determination of the RBPF to join its efforts with other departments to strengthen law enforcement in Brunei.
"We want investors to feel safe and have confidence in Brunei." said Mohd Sammy, stressing the importance of safety in the country on attracting foreign investment.
Hj Mohd Saifullah Pg Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pg Anak Hj Idris, Deputy Superintendent and Staff Officer II of RBPF's Operations Department, explained that his department had recently been given the mandate to coordinate such multi-agencies cooperation.
He said the meeting yesterday was held mainly to get all the agencies involved ready for the upcoming festive period.
The crimes under the meeting's radar ranged from minor, like house break-ins, theft and assault to major crimes such as drug smuggling.
Hj Mohd Saifullah said the meeting would help confirm the local point" within each department, which will become the contact "person" in all multi-agency operations.
He explained that the department wanted to streamline the contact process when coordinating multi-agency operations, hence the need to determine who will be the initial contact in each agency involved.
Also on the agenda was the State Control Centre (SCC), which receives all emergency calls in Brunei and then dispatches each call to the relevant agency in need.
He concluded the interview by saying that the operations will not only be in city centres, but also in rural areas, through border patrols and also out on sea, via the Marine Police.
Hj Mohd Saifullah also hoped that their efforts will help reduce crime in the country.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
