H1N1 Advice Far School Holiday Travellers

Bandar Seri Begawan - As The year-end school holidays are approaching with many people planning to go on a holiday abroad, the Ministry of Health has urged the travellers to take precautionary measures such as practising self-cleanliness, avoiding contact with those who have symptoms of H1N1 and staying away from crowded places.

The school holidays are from Nov 27-Dec 31,2009.

The ministry advised the public to be extra cautious amid the wet season, which the sultanate is experiencing, should the second wave of influenza A, H1NI occur.

The ministry said that surveillance on the level of H1N1 indicated that the pandemic is under control and at a normal level in the country.

However, the public are urged to wash their hands frequently with soap and water and to dry their hands with a disposable towel or hand drier, to use disposable a tissue that contains alcohol or disinfectant gel if no such handwash is available, to close one's mouth and noses with a tissue paper when sneezing or coughing and to dispose the used tissues immediately in a dustbin.

Those who develop influenza symptoms are urged to distance themselves from other people, reduce social interaction and seek medical attention immediately for treatment and medical examination.

The ministry also seeks public cooperation, especially from those visiting hospitals, to abide by the visiting hours in government hospitals and allow only two visitors for every patient, not to bring children aged 12 years old and below to visit patients as well as to wear a mask if they want to visit the hospital.

These measures are to prevent the spread of the disease to the patients. For further inquiries on Influenza A H1N1, the public can call 145 during office hours or 7180991 after working hours. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
