The group from the school won the coveted title with their performance titled "Terselamat Dari Fitnah" while Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Arabic Secondary School and Sayyidina Hussein Secondary School won second and third place respectively. Organised by the Electronic Media Unit under the Islamic Da'wah Centre, it is in its sixth year and this year marks the second time the current format is being used.
Speaking on behalf of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), Pg Hj Mahari Pg Hj Abdul Rajak, Acting Director of RTB, said, "Many religious radio and television programmes have been produced between RTB and the Islamic Da'wah Centre. Among the popular ones are An-Nur (radio) and Ihya Ramadban."
He then called on public and private agencies to cooperate with RTB to come up with a strategic partnership in its effort to diversify its religious programmes. "If this can be achieved, it is not impossible that we will have a (TV) channel designated for religious programmes," he said.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hj Md Mandi Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Diraja Dan) Leila Utama Hj Abd Rahman urged the educators to be constantly creative and to encourage students to be driven by positive competitiveness.
"This competition can foster our students to be closer towards spiritual education, (which is) important in strengthening one's faith," he added.
Echoing his sentiment, Hjh Hasnah Hj Omar, Acting Director of the Islamic Da'wah Centre, who is also the competition's chairperson said that "the competition acts as a platform to disseminate Islamic teachings and through it, students can increase their knowledge on the Islamic history". She hoped that it would provide positive motivation towards forming a positive mindset in students, develop their confidence and articulation in presenting their opinions and ideas in front of an audience and instil noble values in the future intellectual leaders.
Commenting on the competion's topic, Hj Md Mandi said that history is an important in appreciating how Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions struggled to spread the teachings of Islam.
"Educators can learn from the Prophet's methods of spreading Islam," he said. He added that stories of the Prophet remain relevant today.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
