Bandar Seri Begawan - Twenty-Six teachers from different religious schools across the country took part in a first-aid course yesterday at the National Resuscitation Centre, Ong Sum Ping Medical Centre.
The group of teachers is the second to be sent for the first aid course by the Islamic Studies Department this month.
The three-day course covers the basics in first aid including CPR, bandaging, applying a sling and proper lifting techniques.
According to the course coordinator, Pg Abu Bakar Pg Hj Ibrahim, the course is part of the Ministry of Health's - efforts to provide basic expertise in life support skills.
"It is a competency-based course and is aimed at not just educating but is more on providing knowledge, skills and attitude to the participants of the course. After attending the course, it is hoped that participants will be able to handle minor medical emergencies should any occur," he said.
The course is offered by the Ministry of Health through the National Resuscitation Centre and has been open to the general public and other ministries since 2003 due to high demand.
The course has received good response from the public and other ministries and has also been attended by members of the RBAF, RBPF and the Fire & Rescue Department. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
