Chile Shaken By 6.1-Magnitude Earthquake,No Casualities And Damage Reported

SANTIAGO
July 25 (Xinhua) -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit the region of Antofagasta in northern Chile on Monday, without causing injuries or material damage, according to the authorities.
The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile indicated the earthquake occurred at 1:26 p.m. local time, with a depth of 77.7 km.
Its epicenter located 30 km from the town of Chanaral, around 1, 500 km north of Santiago.
No damage or injuries were reported and there is no disruption of services.
The army's national oceanographic and hydrographic service said there was no risk of a tsunami.
On Sept.16, 2015, an earthquake of 8.4 magnitude struck the northern zone of Coquimbo, leaving 13 people dead and around 9,000 people homeless.
The country has suffered around 500 aftershocks ever since.
