KUALA BELAIT

One hundred pensioners were yesterday invited to the Hari Raya open house of Awang Haji Affandy bin Haji Damit, the Village Head of Kampong Pandan 'C'.

The event, which coincided with the first day of July's distribution of pensions, was aimed at fostering better relations among the senior citizens of the village.

In an interview, Haji Affandy said that meeting with the pensioners at least once a month helps him to be more aware of their well-being.

"We make enquiries when we don't see them present. Thankfully, most people in this village know each other," he said, adding that the oldest recipient in Kampong Pandan 'C' is a 91-year-old.

A dialogue session was also held allowing villagers the opportunity to raise questions with regard to village affairs.

Also present at the gathering were officials from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) and Belait District Office (JDB).
