BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
The Ministry of Health (MoH) in a press conference yesterday announced the closing of primary healthcare (outpatient services) at the Bandar Seri Begawan Health Centre, Ong Sum Ping and Kiarong Mother and Child Health Clinic.
The primary healthcare services at the two centres will be moved to the Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah (PAPHMWHB) Health Centre in Gadong, Rimba.
With this, residents living within the Bandar Seri Begawan Health Centre catchment area and Kiarong Mother and Child Health Clinic, with the exception of those in the Kampong Subok area are advised to acquire health services at the PAPHMWHB Health Centre at Spg 256-23, Kampong Rimba, Gadong (242-4991 or 242-8247/48/49) starting August 1. The clinic is adjacent to the Rimba Dialysis Centre.
Those living in the Kampong Subok area are advised to get their health services at the Berakas Health Centre at Jalan 10 Selatan, RPN Lambak Kanan, Berakas (233-3991).
Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy) at the Ministry of Health during the conference said the move was made to make a more cost efficient operation. He said the Ong Sum Ping complex was not a conducive environment for primary health services, and the PAPHMWHB Health Centre is also big enough to accommodate the number of patients within the combined catchment areas.
Dr. Awang Haji Norzaidi bin Haji Md Saini, Acting Senior Medical Officer-in-charge of PAPHMWHB Health Centre, who was also in the press conference, explained that PAPHMWHB Health Centre will be able to accommodate extra patients because of the number of doctors coming from the two health clinics.
Dr. Dayang Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Abdul Garif, Medical Superintendent of Community Health said patients moving from the two health centres to the PAPHMWHB Health Centre are encouraged to make use of the appointment system implemented successfully at the PAPHMWHB Health Centre to avoid long waiting periods at the hospital.
Also attending were Dr. Sylviana Moris, Head of Services (Planning), Ministry of Health, and Pengiran Dr. Hajah Siti Nasibah binti Pengiran Haji Ismail - the Head of Primary Healthcare Service Administration. In relation to this, to ease the migration works, it was also announced that the Bandar Seri Begawan Health Centre, Ong Sum Ping will be closed on July 30, at 12.15pm.
Meanwhile, the Vaccination Centre and Occupational Health Division will continue their services at the old location until an announced time, which is currently at the fourth and fifth floor, at Block 2G2:03, Condominium Ong Sum Ping, Jalan Ong Sum Ping, BA1111. In relation to this matter the PAPHMWHB Health Centre is extending its opening hours from 7am to 6pm from Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays.
