The Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD) yesterday commemorated its 8th Community Day and celebrated the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, PPPBD President, during a ceremony held at its headquarters in Anggerek Desa, Berakas.
Present at the event was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, who was accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah.
In her welcoming remarks, PPPBD Chief Commissioner Dayang Hajah Hafsah binti Awang Haji Abdul Halim noted that members of the association were able to carry out community related activities such as contributing to senior citizens, single mothers and the underprivileged.
They were also engaged in several projects namely 'Projek Telekong' and 'Projek Anak-Anak Yatim' as well as helping in the cleaning of mosque compounds and cemeteries.
The association also carried out community works in collaboration with the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education as well as the Department of Youth and Sports and Community Development Department (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
She further noted that for this year's celebration, the association's Girl Guides Section is planning on a project to redevelop vegetable plots at the headquarters, which were initially done by the Pandu Puteri Tunas, Girl Guides Association, Ranger Girl Guides and Young Leaders Unit.
The Community Day also served to expose its members to the culture of providing community services particularly to those in need of assistance while instilling and stabilising self-identity, discipline and teamwork spirit through projects and community activities conducted by the association.
It also aimed to educate the young members on how to always be prepared to render their services to the community, religion, nation and country in line with the girl guides motto of 'Siap, Sedia' as well as strengthening ties and raising courtesy among the association's members in the three districts.
Yesterday's ceremony began with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by the welcoming address and video presentation after which Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah consented to cut her birthday cake and present the volunteers and community project to Dayang Hajah Saadiah binti Haji Ghazali, a representative from JAPEM.
To bless the ceremony, a Doa Selamat was recited by Dayang Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Ghani, Spiritual Commissioner of PPPBD.
