Myanmar reported 12 more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Monday morning, bringing the number of infections to 787 in total, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

According to the ministry, 11 newly confirmed cases are from Rakhine state while the other one is from Yangon region.

Of the newly patients, three had close contact with recently confirmed patients and five had travelling history to western Rakhine state in the past 14 days, while four did not have either recent travel history or close contact with the confirmed patients, the release said.

Myanmar has detected new local transmission again on Aug. 16 since its local case was lastly reported on July. 16.

Rakhine state has been seeing increasing number of local cases since Aug. 16 and all townships of the state are now under the stay-at-home order, as part of measures to effectively curb the spread of the coronavirus.

A total of 157,843 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far and 7,624 patients are currently under observation, the ministry's figures said.

According to the ministry's figures, 352 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

Myanmar reported its first two positive cases of COVID-19 on March 23 with six deaths being reported so far.
