New Zealand Confirms Six New Cases Of COVID-19

WELLINGTON

New Zealand confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, including two imported cases detected in managed isolation facilities and four community cases.

One of the imported case was a man in his 20s who arrived from the Philippines on Sept. 3 and was at a managed isolation facility when he tested positive on day 3 of his stay, according to the Ministry of Health.

The second case was a female in her late teens who arrived on the same flight from the Philippines and also tested positive on day 3, said a ministry statement.

There are four new cases in the community, all linked to the Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship Church group within the Auckland August cluster. Auckland Regional Public Health is actively tracing and testing their contacts, the statement said.

Since Aug. 11, the government contact tracing team has identified 3,274 close contacts of cases, of which 3,228 have been contacted and are self-isolating, it said.

There are 69 people linked to the community cluster who remain in the Auckland quarantine facility, which includes 52 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their household contacts, it added.

There were four people in hospital with COVID-19 on Tuesday, with two in ICU, at Auckland's North Shore and Waikato hospitals, according to the ministry.

With the six new cases and one additional recovered case, the total number of active cases in New Zealand is 123. Of those, 43 are imported cases in managed isolation facilities, and 80 are community cases, the ministry said.

The country's total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is now 1,431, which is the number reported to the World Health Organization.

Border and managed isolation and quarantine facility workers will be required to undergo regular COVID-19 tests, the government announced on Monday.

From Aug. 31, adults on all public transport in New Zealand must wear face coverings to prevent virus transmission, with fines for non-compliance.
