Local Golfer Ranked 28th, 45th out of 50 at 18th SUKMA Games

Brunei Darussalam's golfer Awang Qazzri Fakhri bin Haji Aslimon was ranked 28th out of 50 entries after registering a total of 240 overall in the men's individual event in the 18th Sukma (Malaysia Games) at the Sarawak Golf Club on Thursday.

 

Qazzri Fakhri's compatriot Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Haji Ali Mohammed finished in 45th place with a total of 256.

 

Brunei's best-placed finisher has carded 78 in the opening round but his position dropped after carding a set of 81 while Awangku Muhd Syakir posted a set of 85 and an 86.

 

Johor's Daeng Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Aziz expectedly bagged gold in the event with a total of 214 while Federal Territories's Muhammad Afif bin Muhammad Razif collected silver with a total of 219 and Johor's Aaerishna Shahsthy Balakrishnan settled for bronze with a total of 223.

 

Daeng represented Malaysia in the 28th SEA Games in Singapore with his talents not coming unnoticed after winning the 28th MPI-Saujana Amateur Championship and became the youngest Malaysian golfer to ever win on the Professional Golf ofMalaysia (PGM) at the PGM Danau.

 

The breakthrough star has already earned a reputation for his budding talent having emerged winner of the Faldo Series Malaysia Championship in 2014.

 

With Sukma already under his belt, Daeng Abdul Rahman will aim lofty heights in the 29th SEA Games on home soil.

 

Johor enjoyed a medal-laden day in golf with the 20-year old triumph followed with gold in the ladies' team comprising women's individual bronze medallist Loy Hee Ying, Chong Yong and Nurdiyana Aqilah.

 

The male team consisting Daeng Abdul Rahman, bronze medallist AAerishna, Muhd Zafran Abdullah and Irfan Syahmi also claimed silver.

 

Meanwhile, Brunei Darussalam finished at the bottom of the 14-team table after recording a total of 1027 pinfalls in the five-member male team event at the Megalane Bowling Centre, Batu Kawah in Kuching.

 

Awangku Mohd Ardhi Pengiran Omar All managed a total of 485 pinfalls while Safwan Anwar Sapri recorded a total of 542 pinfalls.

 

Sarawak won gold with a total of 3084 pinfalls while Selangor claimed silver with a total of 3010 pinfalls and Terrenganu settled for bronze with a total of 2962 points.
