Smuggling Attempt

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

 

​Two local citizens were charged at the Bandar Seri Begawan's Magistrate court yesterday under Section 146, 1D, Excise Order 2006.

 

The first charge was attempted smuggling of 99 cartons of cigarettes of various brand. While second charge was attempted smuggling of 312 bottle and 1 thousand 566 cans of alcoholic drinks.

 

The first defendant Khairul Arifin Bin Harun, pleaded not guilty on both charges Case will be mentioned on 2nd December 2020.

 

Meanwhile second defendant, Pg Haji Sufri Bin Pg Haji Puan pleaded guilty on both charges and totalling $144,200. For the first offence, he was fined $79,200 or 17 months imprisonment in default, while for the second charges he was fined $65,000 or 16 months imprisonment. The defendants were given until 24th May 2021 to settle the fine, while items were confiscated to be destroyed.
