JALAN LAPANGAN TERBANG LAMA, BERAKAS

The 'Satu Baju, Satu Senyuman' charity bazaar, the third instalment of Bazar Amal, organised by Battle Pro Event Management (BPRO) in collaboration with Brunei-Muara District Office, was officially launched yesterday at the Muhibbah Hall, Old Airport in Berakas.

The four-day charity bazaar was opened by the Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Awang Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim.

The four-day bazaar which runs until April 7 offers an opportunity for the public to do charity by donating Baju Cara Melayu and Baju Kurung which will be distributed to orphans during Hari Raya celebration.

Members of the public can buy textiles at the bazaar or bring their own textiles and make Baju Cara Melayu for BND$17 or Baju Kurung for BND$20 at the only tailor shop provided at the bazaar, Syarikat Dayang Limah dan Anak-Anak.

For every single piece of cloth made for the customer, another piece will be made for free, which later will be donated to orphans after the end of the bazaar.

The Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Awang Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, takes a closer look at the participating booths.

"There is no additional cost for those who order for more Baju Cara Melayu or Baju Kurung and if we manage to receive 3,000 orders from the public, then another 3,000 extra pieces will be made and donated to orphans. Our minimum target is to get 1,000 clothes and we hope that will go beyond our expectation as there are more than 8,000 orphans registered under the District Office," said Awang Haji Syed Mohd Yassin bin Haji Syed Anayatullah Shah, Manager of BPRO.

"It is good to see orphans are given textiles, but sometimes it will be too late for them to make them into clothing or some tailor shops might be full with orders or they might spend their money to purchase other important things, and hence we came up with this idea," he added.

He also shared that 20 per cent of proceeds from the renting of booths at the charity bazaar will be donated to orphans.

Awang Haji Syed Anayatullah Shah, Managing Director of Syarikat Dayang Limah dan Anak-Anak, said the company is happy to be part of the charity bazaar as it can raise awareness among the public to donate as well as lessen the burden of orphans in Brunei and get the blessings from Allah the Almighty.

The charity bazaar aims to provide assistance for the orphans and an opportunity for them to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with new clothes as well as to collect donations for Brunei-Muara District Office Fund particularly in helping those who are less fortunate.
