Bandar Seri Begawan,
August 3, 2016 –Ayam Brand™, famed for its wide range of healthy and convenient, preservative-free canned products launches its first charity campaign, that was held here, today.
The campaign will benefit charity organizations across Brunei with Ayam Brand™ tuna, mackerel, kernel corn, processed peas, pineapple chunks, peach slices and baked beans, sufficient for daily meals for all residents for two months. The donated products are sufficient to prepare 21,600 healthy meals for two months consumption.
A fun-filled hands-on event was held in Bandar Seri Begawan for members from participating charity organizations; Learning Ladders Society Learning Centre, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and SMARTER Brunei. The campaign in Brunei will benefit 120 children and adults alike across these three charity organizations.
The brand has proven that quality canned food can be part of a healthier diet through its work in promoting healthy eating habits among children and adults with professional bodies, schools, charities and edutainment centers in the region.
Children participating in this year’s campaign were introduced to Bento, a single-portion home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine that traditionally holds rice, fish, meat with pickled or cooked vegetables with fruit or other sweet item. It is usually beautifully packed in a box-shaped container and is well balanced nutritionally. Japanese people spend time and energy on a carefully prepared bento box for their spouse, child, or themselves.
The participating children learnt how to prepare four Ayam Brand™ dishes in a fun and interactive session that was specially developed to suit people of different ages and abilities; namely Mixed Fruit Salad, Baked Bean, Heart Shaped Sardine Sandwich and Tuna Onigiri under the guidance of Ayam Brand representatives.
The recipes were created by the Ayam Brand™ team, with a focus on nutrition and convenience. Eaten together the Ayam Brand Bento box is high in protein from the tuna, sardines and baked beans. Protein intake is essential as it builds, maintains and replaces the tissues in your body. Ayam Brand™ pineapple chunks and peach slices, sweet corn and baked beans, provide crunch, sweetness, fibre, and essential vitamins.Fibre is important as it helps maintain bowel health as well as lowers cholesterol levels.
The campaign encourages children to be independent as well as encouraging them to make informed food choices that are nutritionally balanced. It also serves to introduce foods from other cultures and cuisines for greater exposure.
According to Ayam Brand™ representative Mr Stanley Wang, the brand decided to introduce the charity campaign in Brunei as a return for the community here, which has been supportive towards the brand.
“The campaign will serve underprivileged communities that has been our commitment to the society. We believe that our Ayam Brand™ products will aid the charity organizations here by providing its residents with healthy, convenient, no added preservative and no added MSG canned food products in addition to reduce its financial burden,” added Mr Wang.
Mr Wang also added that introducing Bento boxes can help children become more independent in making better dietary choices, as well as letting them exercise control over portions, while exposing them to the culinary traditions of Japan.
“Bento box making is a useful daily skill that kids and adults can use to pack food for school or for work. It is a healthy, affordable, and convenient alternative to buying lunch or dinner, and it is easier to control portion sizes, that can be useful in fighting obesity. It helps in developing food appreciation including how to combine flavours and ingredients,” Mr Wang said.
Mr Wang added that all Ayam Brand™ products do not contain added MSG, are preservative-free, can be eaten straight from the can and are Halal.
“We want more people to have access to healthy, nutritious food that is convenient and easy to prepare. This is what we have been working towards over the past nine years through our annual CSR and other programmes, and we are seeing promising results,” added Mr Wang.
Encik Malai Hj Abdullah bin Hj Malai Othman, President and CEO of SMARTER Brunei who spoke on behalf of all the Individuals With Autism especially the adults in Brunei Darussalam said that the contribution from Ayam Brand™ was valuable for the continuous cooking activity in the Brunei Autism Centre for Adults (B.A.C.A). It has provided an opportunity for the adults with Autism to have a variety of recipe to prepare and cook in which they eventually share with their friends and family. Through this opportunity, the adults learned to be self - reliant members of the Society.
“Donations and contributions given by the Ayam Brand™ has helped us to cut down in our expenses for the cooking activity. The adults enjoy Ayam Brand™ products as much as we do because it is healthy and convenient. They have enjoyed this Bento box making workshop and we will ensure that they will use these skills and recipes as part of their daily lives in which they can share with others,” said Malai Hj Abdullah
