An AirAsia flight to Bandar Aceh was delayed after a flight attendant heard a passenger utter the word “bomb” on board the aircraft.

AirAsia flight AK 423, which was scheduled to depart at 7.40am Wednesday from KLIA2 for Indonesia, had to be grounded temporarily after a flight attendant allegedly overheard a passenger talking about a bomb.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Ali (pic) said, following a call by the AOCC (Airport Operation Control Centre), police performed a thorough sweep of the aircraft.

He said that no suspicious packages were found and that investigations showed that the passenger in question had merely said “ada bom kot” (maybe there’s a bomb).

The plane was returned to the airlines following the all-clear from the police.

ACP Aziz added that the passenger who uttered the words had been brought in for questioning and that threats to security were found.

“Don’t joke about threats in airports or planes because action can be taken according to the law,” advised ACP Aziz.

Flight AK423 finally departed KLIA2 at 2.13pm. It is estimated to arrive in Banda Aceh at 3.50pm local time.
