BEIJING

Romantic fantasy "The End of Endless Love" topped the Chinese box office on Tuesday, grossing more than 14.4 million yuan (2.2 million U.S. dollars), according to data compiled by the China Movie Data Information Network.

With a young and popular cast, and with popular Chinese romance author Guo Jingming as a screenwriter, the film has raked in a total of 182 million yuan in the five days since its release.

Historical fantasy comedy "Soul Snatcher" and crime thriller "Caught in Time" respectively ranked second and third on the daily box office chart, generating about 6.96 million yuan and 6.07 million yuan, both down from earnings the previous day.

In fourth was U.S. animated comedy "The Croods: A New Age," which pocketed some 4.3 million yuan and saw its total Chinese box office earnings top 245 million yuan.

China's total annual box office revenue has this year shattered its 17 billion yuan record.
