England emerged champions of the annual Treasury Department Futsal Tournament after beating Italy 2-0 in the final at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex recently.

England also finished as league champions after accumulating a total of 15 points with five straight victories.

A 5th minute screamer from Abdul Fadhil bin Othman and a solo effort from Hazrul Hazmi on the stroke of half-time settled the tie in the Euro 2016 themed final.

Italy fought valiantly to get back to the tie with Md Zahid Shaakir Dato Paduka Wahid denied by the post while the duo of Mohamed Khairul Amilin bin Haji Masri and Mohd Nazri bin Haji Jahri also came agonisingly close of handing their side a lifeline.

Meanwhile, Ukraine inspired by a brace from Razali bin Hassim as well as solitary efforts from Haji Abdul Hafiz bin Haji Md Daud and Wilson Stewart Tong won third place after thrashing Germany 4-0.

Earlier, Ukraine and England finished in a 1-1 draw in regulation time in the semi-finals with the latter eventually progressing after winning 4-3 in penalties.

Italy beat Germany 2-0 to set up a final against England with goals coming from Md Zahid Shaakir and Mohd Nazri.

There were also individual accolades on offer with Mohd Hazrul Hazmi winning the best player and top scorer awards while England teammate Khairul Anwar bin Awang Yussof was awarded the best goalkeeper.

Completing the six-team tournament were Spain and Belgium, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Presenting the prizes to the winners was Dayang Norliah binti Haji Kula, Acting Accountant General.
