'Riadah Berbasikal Keputeraan' To Take Place on August 14

The mass cycling event 'Riadah Berbasikal Keputeraan' will take centre stage at the heart of the capital in Bandar Seri Begawan on August 14 to commemorate the 70'h birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The event will be jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Health with the cooperation of Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation (BDCF).
The BDCF will be responsible for the routing and technical capability during the 15km expedition.
Secretary General of BDCF, Awang Haji Omar bin Ali Haji Ibrahim has confirmed marshals will be involved in the interest of safety to help direct the recreational riders if need be over the course of the cycle.
The route has been considered of little or no degree of difficulty with BDCF stating that it is fairly flat with no major elevations.
The marshals will be present to assist the riders - who are permitted to join with no such restrictions of their ability levels-to not veer away from the original route.
Furthermore, the BDCF said that there will be three water stations including on the starting and finishing point of the race.
The ride is expected to take between 45 to 60 minutes with an average of 15 to 17km per hour.
To coincide with the event, a total of 70 riders will undertake a cycling challenge to reach the Taman Sir Haji Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien under a two-hour timeframe.
