Zheijang Delegation to Explore Business Opportunities in Sultanate

 April 6th, 2016  |  05:31 AM  |   1180 views

BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

A seven-member delegation from Zhejiang Province in the People's Republic of China is currently in Brunei Darussalam to explore business opportunities.

The delegation, headed by Han Jie, Vice Director-General of Zhejiang Department of Commerce, met with members of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) of Brunei Darussalam at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Berakas yesterday.

Welcoming the delegation, NCCI President Awang Haji Razali bin Haji Johari said, "We are interested in Chinese investments in Brunei. Chinese investors have already initiated a few projects such as the Hengyi Petrochemical Project at Pulau Muara Besar.

"They are also seeking to collaborate with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and associate with the building of the bridge between Bandar Seri Begawan and Temburong.

"To further boost relations with China, NCCI recently sent a seven-member Brunei team to China to receive training in various fields. We hope Chinese foreign investors will come to Brunei and invest in the food industry and other related industries as well as in tourism," he added.

During the courtesy call, the delegation had the opportunity to witness a slide presentation on NCCI by its Secretary-General, Awang Haji Abdul Saman bin Haji Ahmad.

He said the chamber, which was established in 1985, has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with other chambers such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Polish Chamber of Commerce, the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

In his speech, Han Jie was happy to note that the people of Brunei knew about Zhejiang province, adding "Our visit to Brunei is not only to look for investment opportunities but also to promote Zhejiang province."

The delegation visited the Hengyi project and found it progressing well. Hengyi's, the biggest investment project of Zhejiang, reflects the strong cooperation between Brunei and Zhejiang and it will further promote more Zhejiang enterprises to come to Brunei.

One of most developed provinces in China, Zhejiang is located on the Southeast coast of China with a population of 50 million.

The province is famous for textiles, one of Zhejiang's pillar industries.

Machinery is another leading industry. The province exports power tools, bearings, hand tools, industrial chains and low-voltage appliances.

The provincial government encourages foreign investors to invest in sectors such as high-end manufacturing, hi-tech industry, modern services industry and service outsourcing.

The event also saw a question-andanswer session between the delegation and members of the chamber.

The delegation will visit places of interest in Brunei before returning to China today.
