"Joseph! Joseph! Joseph!" fans cheered as the Olympic gold-medallist Joseph Schooling emerged from the arrivals gate at Changi Airport early on Monday (Aug 15).
The swimmer's flight, Singapore Airlines Flight 67, arrived shortly after 5.30am, to the relief of many who gave up sleep to greet Singapore's first Olympic gold medallist.
After the plane touched down, Changi Airport welcomed him with a water gun salute on the tarmac.
Many of Schooling's fans — wearing red and white, and waving the national flag — became increasingly excited after they heard he had landed. The crowd of about 400 people and media frenzy had been waiting for the athlete for hours.
