SIBU, SARAWAK
It Is a wonderful gift even time will never be able to erase from memory. The children of a Sarawak school will keep them as an invaluable memento and forever the words inscribed on it will remind them of the love Brunei's benevolent ruler showered on them during the Hari Raya in 2016.
Year 5 students of the Kuala Pelugau Primary School located in Kecil Selangau, an interior district in Sibu, recently received a surprise Hari Raya gift from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in the form of a greeting card.
The kind of gesture which came as a splendid souvenir from the loving monarch made the children ecstatic as they did not expect His Majesty to send a reply to their Hari Raya greeting card.
It was a very meaningful moment for them; some were in tears and were so touched after receiving the card, according to a report published on the Borneo Dihati blog which went viral recently.
According to the report, teachers in the class were teaching students how to make Hari Raya greeting cards in the month of Ramadhan.
The students were asked to think outside the box and apply it to everyday life and not just as a learning process in the classroom.
The children then tried their luck by sending handmade Hari Raya greeting cards to His Majesty and they did not think of receiving a reply.
The students were surprised to receive His Majesty's Hari Raya greeting cards, each with the name of the students.
The Hari Raya greeting cards have inspired the students to work hard in hope of one day travelling to Brunei to meet His Majesty to convey their appreciation for the Hari Raya cards.
