Bayern Munich Cruise Past FC Carl Zeiss Jena with Lewandowski Hat Trick

GERMANY

Carlo Ancelotti celebrated two wins out of two as Bayern Munich coach as the holders got their DFB-Pokal campaign off to a winning start against Carl Zeiss Jena.

Playing the side he had lost against as a Roma player in the European Cup Winners' Cup over three decades ago, Ancelotti was able to rely on the Bundesliga's top goalscorer from last season as Bayern cruised to a 5-0 win.

Robert Lewandowski effectively finished the tie off with a hat trick inside the first half as Bayern became the first side to book a place in next Friday's second-round draw, a week after winning the Super Cup and a week before the start of the Bundesliga season.

The Pole struck after three, 34 and 43 minutes before Arturo Vidal got his name on the scoresheet in the second half.

Mats Hummels also opened his Bayern account with a header to wrap up victory in the 77th minute.

Fellow Bavarians Augsburg joined Bayern in the second round with a 2-0 win at Ravensburg, with Koo Ja-cheol and Raul Bobadilla granting Dirk Schuster a winning start to life as their coach since joining from Darmstadt this summer.

St. Pauli also secured their passage to the second round on Friday night with a 3-0 win at northern Germany rivals Lubeck.

Schalke, Freiburg and Wolfsburg are among the Bundesliga sides in action on Saturday with Borussia Dortmund, who were beaten by Bayern in the Supercup a week ago, last up at Eintracht Trier on Monday evening.
