LAHAD DATU

The police here are looking for a Timorese man on suspicion of being  involved in the murder of a 45-year-old woman at the Lahad Datu water pump house at Jalan Sinar on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Yulius Pehang Keteng, 18, is also known as Yolan and was staying in the same house with the victim and her 47-year-old husband at the pump house.

Lahad Datu police chief, ACP Hamzah Ahmad, in a statement yesterday said that the police received a call at about 6.50am from member of the public informing of the discovery of a body of a bloodied woman at the side of the water tank.

“Initial investigation found that the deceased victim, identified as Rosalia Sogan, was living in the de-commissioned pump house with her husband, who works as the night guard at the water pump house together with the suspect.

“Further investigation revealed that the victim’s husband had taken another job without telling his employer and had asked the suspect to replace him at the water pump,” he said.

According to Hamzah, inspection of the victim’s body found a tear at the back of her head which is believed to have been hit by a blunt object.

The incident was believed to have taken place at the pump house where blood stains were found. A stick about two metres long was also found at the scene.

“We have detained the victim’s husband, but have yet to establish the motive of the incident as the victim’s husband refused to cooperate.

“Police have launched a manhunt for the 18-year-old suspect as he disappeared after the incident,” he said.

Hamzah added that investigation is still ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code and members of public who have any information on this case or have seen the suspect to come forward to assist the investigation.
