An Indonesian maid was jailed for three months by the Magistrate's Court yesterday after she pleaded guilty two days ago to stealing money from her employer.
The thirty-nine-year-old defendant, Aning Karwati, stole BND2,435 in cash from her 65-year-old woman employer's wallet.
DPP Azmeena Mohiddin informed Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman that at around 5pm on August 19, 2016 the defendant entered her employer's bedroom whilst her employer was drawing the curtains in the living room.
On the bed she saw a handbag from which she took the wallet and emptied it of its cash.
The defendant's employer realised that the money was missing at about 9pm and lodged a police report.
The defendant had left home since afternoon and stayed at a supermarket, not wanting to leave the premises at closing time, which led to a security staff filing a report and the arrest of the defendant by the police.
