The Jakarta Corruption Court is set to rule on the graft case implicating Supreme Court official Andri Tristianto Sutrisna on Thursday, Kompas.com has reported.

Andri has been charged with accepting bribes and gratuities in exchange for a favorable ruling in a Supreme Court case.

Earlier, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors demanded that corruption court judges sentence Andri to 13 years in prison. The prosecutor team said Andri’s deeds ran contrary to the government’s corruption eradication programs and damaged the public’s trust in the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court.

They further said Andri’s acts had destroyed the hopes of justice seekers and, therefore, there was no any reason for the government to forgive the defendant and impose a sentence that was not in accordance with his illicit behavior.

According to KPK prosecutors, Andri received Rp 400 million (US$ 30165.92) in bribes to postpone the delivery of the copy of an appeal ruling document relating to Ichsan Suaidi’s involvement in a corruption case centering on the Labuhan Haji Port construction project in East Lombok

With the postponement, it was hoped the Supreme Court’s appeal ruling would not be executed by prosecutors, giving the suspect more time to prepare a second case review request.

Apart from the bribery, Andri is also accused of receiving Rp 500 million in gratuities from Asep Ruhiat, a lawyer in Pekanbaru, Riau. Asep allegedly gave the money so Andri would help him handle several appeals and second case review requests submitted to the Supreme Court.

Prosecutors said Andri also received Rp 50 million from several other parties who had filed appeals and second case review requests with the court. (ebf)
