Beruang Blazers Overwhelmed by Defending Champions

MBK STADIUM, THAILAND

Defending champion Kuching Lord Tigers yesterday night mauled Brunei's Beruang Blazers 107-76 to cap off the 2nd Yuwang EBL championship's Kuching Circuit at the MBKS stadium.

With one win and two defeats, Beruang Blazers will be heading to the Labuan Circuit looking for revenge against Kuching Lord Tigers on September 2.

Import player Lyndon Gudez had a slow start to the game and contributed 20 points to Beruang Blazers while Lim Liang Wei scored 14 points. Delvin Goh had 11 rebounds and two blocks to his credit with six points.

The opponent's sharp shooter, Chze Hian Chai had 20 points while Chai Teck Yiek with Jessie James Bulaon Callodo each contributed 17 points for the win.

Head coach of the Beruang Blazers commented after the game, "For this Kuching Circuit, we are in the process of understanding the chemistry of our players and how we play as a team. I generally think we played well as a team. There were spurts of brilliance on our offence and defence.

Like other teams, we do have weaknesses which were quite evident but of course we will review and adjust accordingly.

"Kuching are the defending champion and playing like one and they showed great execution on their plays," he added.

On playing three days in a row, he said, "The three days back to back game is taking a toll on most of our players who are experiencing this for the first time. Hopefully this circuit will allow us to absorb and learn from the demanding circuit."

Beruang Blazers started the match sluggishly and were down by as much as 15 points with four minutes left in the first quarter. Beruang import DelvinGoh showed that he is not only good at rebound but also with assists. By the end of the first quarter, Lord Tigers lead was cut to only seven points at 31-24.

Kuching Lord Tigers came out in the second quarter looking to put the match away with full court press forcing Beruang Blazers to turnover the balls in numerous occasions.

Top scorer of Beruang in the last two matches, Lyndon Gudez only managed to score four points in the first half and it was Lim Liang Wei who had a high of eight points. Chze Hian Chai of the Tigers was on fire in the first half scoring five three pointers including one three point that beat the buzzer to end the interval with 61-35 lead.

After the interval, Kuching Lord Tigers continued their fine form and extended the lead to 89-55 by the end of the third quarter, and eventually managed to maintain their unassailable lead to cap a perfect record in the championship.
