The overwhelming response in the DST National Veteran Football League highlighted by a record 39 participating teams has been marked as a positive development in the context of veteran football in the country, said a senior member of the Veteran Football Association (VFA) of Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
Secretary General of the Veteran Football Association, Jabar Ithnin expressed his hopes that both teams can provide good quality in performance fulfilling their status as the elite teams in the local veteran football arena whilst displaying a high sporting spirit and fostering closer ties.
Al Idrus will meet XN FT in both the President and FA Cup finals after the former cruised to a comprehensive 6-1 victory over BSRC at the Tutong Sports Complex yesterday.
Haji Hassan Haji Damit and Ishak Haji Ibrahim bagged a brace with the solitary strikes coming from Osman Haji Apong and Hairodin Abdullah while Md Jazmi Muhd Hadi's goal for the Belait-based outfit was in vain.It will be the first time since 2013 that the same teams will be meeting in consecutive finals since XN FT and Muara Vella with the former emerging victorious in both competitions.
XN FT are setting their sights in an unprecedented fourth President's Cup title while Al Idrus are looking to secure their second FA Cup crown in three years.
When asked about his team predictions, Jabar believes that both teams are on par in terms of the quality of players as both are represented by several former national team players.
The secretary general added that the team who commit fewer mistakes and taking their scoring opportunities will be the difference in capturing the titles.
Meanwhile, the press conference for the pre-final of the DST National Veteran Football League will be held this Thursday.
