Bruneians Finish in Top 10 at Labuan Duathlon Challenge

Brunei's debutants Marnie Farizan binti Haji Ahmad of Triultra team and Shazana Nabilah Haji Ayub of Anakpanyu team did their country proud after finishing in the top 10 in the Women's Open of the Labuan Duathlon Challenge 2016 at the Federal Territory of Labuan yesterday.

 

Marnie Farizan completed the race in 6th place while Shazana Nabilah finished in 10th place.

 

The race started and finished at the Labuan International Sea Sport Complex (LISSC).

 

The gruelling event included a set of 5km runs and a 35km bike ride which attracted a total of 495 entries including participants from Brunei.

 

Both athletes have had more than two months to prepare for the race since June under the supervision of their respective teams.

 

The 35km ride began in earnest at the LISSC and Jalan Jumidar Buyong before taking the athletes to well-known places in Labuan such as Jalan Tanjung Aru, Jalan Batu Arang and Jalan Tun Mustapha before returning to the main venue.

 

The 5km run also included a route which took athletes to Jalan Tanjung Purun andJalan Tanjung Batu.

 

The two cyclists will actively continue competitive racing with more events in the regional circuit.

 

Marnie will be competing in the 84km run in the Penang Ultra Challenge in September and the 50km run in the Miri Beach Ultra Challenge in November before proceeding with the 100km in the TNF Hong Kong in December. Shazana will join Marnie in the Miri Ultra Challenge.

 

The cyclists also ensured that they were in good condition by consuming health foods and practicing regular intensive training for future events.

 

Labuan Duathlon is a yearly sporting event that is held in Labuan Island. The event offers opportunities for athletes of all abilities to race through Labuan's natural landscape and tourist attractions.
