GADONG, BRUNEI-MUARA
Royal Brunei Catering Sendirian Berhad (RBC) launched the Malaysian Food Festival at its Seasons Restaurant, in association with Tourism Malaysia, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) and The Centrepoint Hotel, yesterday.
The festival, which will take place until April 30, was officiated by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, H. E. Datuk Ghulam Jelani bin Khanizaman. The ceremony was witnessed by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hisham bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister of Finance and Chairman of Royal Brunei Catering, and Dato Paduka Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance and CEO of Darussalam Assets.
"The history of Malaysian Food Festival started way back in 2005 at The Airport Restaurant and Coffee Shop. With the good response from the public, we continued with the same concept in 2007, 2008 and 2011. However, in 2009, we focussed on one state of Malaysia that was Penang with the theme 'Penang Hawker Food'," said Awang Ahmad Husaini bin Hassan, General Manager of RBC.
He added that in 2010, the festival highlighted Johor, while in 2014 it reconsolidated Penang and Johor cuisine as well as other cuisines from various states of Malaysia.
During that year the festival also coincided with the Visit Malaysia 2014 celebration where the main objective was to provide an opportunity for patrons to discover Malaysia.
This year, RBC is going back to the good old kampong food in Malaysia presenting the unique ambience of Malaysian flavours, he said.
"Throughout the three weeks, the chefs at Seasons Restaurant will prepare authentic Malaysian cuisine and hawker food of Penang. Seasons Restaurant will transform its patrons' dining night into a journey through Malaysian food as they are invited to taste the aromatic menu specially prepared by RBC-own Malaysian chefs Awang Masri Hassan, Chong Keen Wai, Awangku Zaidi bin Pengiran Ahmad and Awang Rashid Jaafar.
Food lovers will be tempted by the ever-popular Malaysian hawker food ranging from the delicious Laksa Kedah, Laksa Johor, Ipoh Kuey Teow, Selangor Yong Tau Foo, Penang pesembur, Sup Tulang Berempah, Sup Kambing Mamak, Nasi Lemak Kampung Baru, Ayam Golek Kelantan, Ikan Panggang Kuala Perlis, Fish Head Soup, Gulai Kawah Daging, Sabah Chicken Herb Tea, Ulaman and many more.
The festival is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7pm to 10pm.
