Sarawak has lost a credible leader with the passing of Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing (pic), says Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Masing was respected by all walks of life regardless of race and religion. His leadership is evident throughout his involvement in politics, especially in fighting for the fate and wellbeing of people in rural areas,” said the state Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.

Abdul Karim added that Masing brought many improvements to the people in rural areas, especially in Kapit.

Similarly, SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the demise of Tan Sri James Masing is a great loss to the state.

The state Housing and Local Government Minister said that he was privileged to have been his colleague and friend and extended his condolences to Masing's family.

“I benefited from his wisdom, humour and camaraderie over the years,” said Dr Sim, who added that the state has lost a person who dedicated his whole life to serving and fighting for Sarawak.

Along with Dr Sim, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing also said that he was shocked and saddened by Masing's passing.

The Bintulu MP and SPDP president said that Sarawak has lost a Dayak leader who is people-oriented, far-sighted and wise.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said in a Facebook post that Masing's passing was a great loss to the people of Sarawak and added that he was a leader with the people's spirit.

“Throughout the time I knew him, he came up with many suggestions to help smallholders and the commodity sector in Sarawak. May his family be strong in the face of this sad moment," said Najib.

Masing passed away at Normah Sarawak Medical Centre (NSMC), Petra Jaya here at 7.05am on Sunday (Oct 31) morning aged 72.

Masing, who was also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, had been admitted the hospital on Sept 28 for Covid-19.
