Shahrin Momin struck a last-gasp winner in the final minute of injury time to send XN FT into ecstasy as they overturned a one-goal deficit to win 2-1 against Al Idrus FT in the final of the DST National Veteran Football League President's Cup final at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
The team which made up of former national players were staring at defeat after Mohd Sadiy Abdullah have given Al Idrus the lead on the stroke of half-time but they responded in dramatic fashion.
XN FT goalkeeper Alijanda Sitom raced into the opposition box before nodding home a powerful header from a corner to level the tie before Shahrin clinched victory with the winner with final kick of the game.
However, Al Idrus may have a case when they were not awarded a penalty with an Al Idrus hurt after a collision with a XN FT player.
Al Idrus were made to pay for their rued chances after Ismail OKS Haji Tengah scuffed his shot wide after being set up by a tricky Azmi Ahmad whose marauding run in the box made him his side's biggest threat.
Al Idrus made a host of substitutions and introduced Shahrulrizal Rahman who played high up the pitch despite his innate abilities as a defender.
XN FT pressed in the end in search of a goal but stoic defending from Al Idrus made life difficult who also had Mohaimin Haji Ghafar flourishing in defence despite nearly putting his side behind with an own goal.
XN FT team manager Pengiran Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin said his team deserved to win after creating a flurry of chances in the entirety of the second half.
"Our opponents were in form. I think we got about six to seven chances and then our goalkeeper went up, attack it and scored.
