The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is one of the many tourism/travel agencies participating at the Brunei Travel Fair 2016 that ends today.
According to the Marketing Manager of TAT for Brunei and Malaysia, Richard Lim Chew Lee, "We have a lot of Bruneians coming into Thailand, but their numbers are considered in the `niche' market.
"Bruneians come to Thailand for a lot of different reasons such as for holidays, medical checkups and the current 'in' thing in Thailand, beauty treatments.
"Aside from shopping, we also have quite a number of Bruneians who come to Thailand specifically for medical check-ups as Thailand has very advanced facilities with competitive pricing.
"We have more than 1,500 hospitals and have the most number of JCI certified (medical gold standard) hospitals in the region," he explained.
Although TAT's office is based in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam is one of their target markets and the travel fair is a good platform for them to provide more options for their Bruneian travellers.
Tourists from Brunei tend to visit Thailand almost every month as the weather is similar to home and Brunei's strong currency makes shopping worth it. This makes Thailand a favourable destination all-year round.
