MELAKA

A total of 11% out of the 11,557 eligible early voters have cast their votes in the Melaka state polls, says the Election Commission.

"The statistics of early voters for the 15th Melaka state election as of 9am is at 11%," said the EC in a brief update on Tuesday (Nov 16).

Before this, EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh and a team of Commission officers arrived at the Melaka police headquarters Dewan Serbaguna about 9.40am to check the early voting process there.

This comes after Perikatan Nasional's Ayer Keroh candidate Datuk Seri Micheal Gan Peng Lam was spotted at the police headquarters at 8.45am.

A total of 11,557 early voters are eligible to cast their votes for the 15th Melaka state election at 31 early polling centres state-wide.

Of the 11,557, 9,217 are army personnel and their spouses while the remainder are 2,340 police personnel.

The EC has set Nov 20 as polling day.

The election is being held following the dissolution of the state assembly after four assemblymen withdrew their support for former chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
