Locals Depart to Join 10th Anniversery NIE Celebration

SINGAPORE
The National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore recently held a Leaders in Education Programme International (LEPI) reunion conference in Singapore to celebrate its 10th year anniversary with LEPI alumni participants from more than 10 countries including three self-funded participants from Brunei.
Carrying the theme, 'School Leadership in an Era of Change: From Value-Adding to Value-Creating', the conference saw recreation activities carried out to rediscover Singapore.
Speaking on behalf of NIE Interntaional, Lim Hwei Ming noted that they have now built up an alumni community comprising 400 individuals from around 76 countries including the latest 12th Cohort this year.
The conference, he added, provides a platform for participants to understand from the keynote speakers on the changes that are occurring in the global education landscape and how it needs to respond.
There were good exchange and takeaways of innovative practices in teaching and learning by participants at the conference and participants were very appreciative to be able to hear from the different countries some of which they might not have had a chance to come across in their education system if not for the conference.
Speakers during the event included Professor Tan Oon Seng, Director, National Institute of Education, Singapore; Professor Christine Goh, Dean Graduate and Professional Learning; Ho Peng, chairperson, NIE International Board of Directors and former Director General of Education in Singapore; and Professor Kristina Reiss, Dean of the School of Education at the Technical University of Munich, Germany.
One of the participants from Brunei noted that it was indeed a very fruitful and valuable experience to join in the
programme as its contents were very informative.
An alumni participant from Singapore noted that the keynote speeches at the conference were relevant and informative concerning the latest developments of leading schools in an era of change, teacher policies and professional learning as well as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
Through the event, NIE was able to welcome back alumni from all over the world to re-establish old ties as well as provide opportunities for brainstorming on the critical issue of leading schools in an era of uncertainty and change.
