Two Bangladeshi men were charged by the Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court for offences under Section 146(1)(d), of the Excise Order 2006, for possession of contraband.

39-year-old SHA ALAM was detained by an officer of the Law Enforcement Division, Royal Customs and Excise Department, at the Kuala Belait Serbaneka Market parking area for possessing 17 cartons of cigarettes of various brands. The accused pleaded guilty and paid a fine of $16,800. All contraband were seized to be destroyed.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old MASUD was detained at a worker's house in the Kuala Belait for possessing 10 cartons of cigarettes of various brands. The accused pleaded guilty and was in default of the $10,000 fine imposed. He was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, starting on the 23rd of December 2021. All contraband were seized to be destroyed.
