BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA
The first-ever National Under-16 Youth League organised by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) on May 1 will further accelerate the learning process of young footballers to one day become quality competitive footballers for the nation.
The benefits of the Under-16 Youth League were underscored by Stephen Ng Heng Seng, senior football coach under NFABD who is also AFC instructor, at the sidelines of the presentation for AFC 'C' coaching certificate course.
Stephen explained in the interview: "We do not only want the players to follow structured training but also they need to be exposed to competitive matches. Both should be in line together to give a bigger impact for learning.
Therefore the Under-16 Youth League would be an important platform for young players to play and gain competitive football experience."
With one of the criteria which include participating teams must have one minimum AFC 'C' Certificate football coach in the list of team officials, he said: "We are proud that at present we have reached the three figure mark for trained coaches now who can go out on the field and train a bigger pool of quality footballers."
"We are trying to broaden the number of players through the set of coaches that we have. Through the youth league, we can further identified quality players for future development," Stephen added.
To further build on the strength of the young national squad, he highlighted: "We need to have good quality matches.
Therefore the U-15 and U-14 Tabuan Muda squads are expected to take part In the National Under-16 Youth League."
