The Officers' Cadet School (OCS) continues to notch significant progress in its efforts to raise its image by intensifying bilateral cooperation with other military academy institutions within the region, Commander of the RBAF said yesterday.
Delivering a speech before 34 newly appointed officer cadets on the occasion of a ceremony to mark the commencement of the Commissioning Course for Officer Cadets of the 16th Intake 2016/2017, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah said these efforts are in tandem with the OCS's goal in generating dedicated and high-calibre military leaders for the country.
Recent bilateral exercises such as that between the OCS and the Officers' Cadet School of New Zealand Defence Force have helped enhance the development and success of both sides in generating excellent military leaders, the commander pointed out, while also sharing plans of joint-trainings with the Singapore Armed Forces' Officers' Cadet School.
"These bilateral exercises willallow the exchange of ideas and experiences of officer cadets from both sides, while also strengthening the knowledge and friendship platform for both countries.
"These exercises have helped enhance our defence diplomacy and also the confidence of the capabilities and professionalism of the RBAF and the involved (military academies)," he added.
He also underlined the OCS's top priority to offer quality training, citing the systematic and detailed process that the academy utilises - right from the rigid selection process that tests prospective officer cadets' physical and mindset abilities and in unleashing their potentials, down to the 52-week officer cadet training that puts to the test their resilience and courage.
"Performance evaluation for officer cadets will be made in a progressive and fair manner, and they will be trained and guided by skilled trainers," he added.
Since its 2008 inception, 336 young high-calibre military officers have graduated from the OCS, and today, they are part of the core network of leadership in the RBAF.
"These young officers have shown resounding contribution to the organisation such as pilots, ship crews including women officers, and also those who are embedded with peacekeeping missions such as the UNIFIL in Lebanon and IMT in Mindanao, while some have also become trainers in the OCS itself and excelled in their own areas," he added.
In tandem with the Brunei Vision 2035, the RBAF demands for individuals with strong education and knowledge
background to become the next generation of leaders to catalyse and lead RBAF's future direction, the commander said, before urging officer cadets to possess constant diligence and -accept all skills and knowledge given with a positive attitude and open mind.
The 17 male and 17 female officer cadets who were commissioned at yesterday's ceremony are undergoing an intense 52-week training that will test their military leadership, character and intellectual abilities. These
will be developed to prepare them for their first appointment as newly commissioned officers in the RBAF.
Upon successful completion of the training, the officer cadets will graduate in the Sovereign's Parade in September 2017.
Also present at the event were services commanders, military directors, commandants, senior officers, officers and staff of Defence Academy RBAF along with family members of the officer cadets.
